A perfect storm?

Last year, I laid out my rules for snow club. After this, there was must discussion about snow days and the perfect timing for snow fall versus work/school/life in general. The consensus was that it would be to have an overnight snowfall on the weekend and then a rapid thaw so life went back to normal on Monday morning.

On Saturday night after much obsessive checking of the weather forecast, we had that snow. Ok, when I opened the curtains on Sunday morning ready to be confronted by a snowy winter wonderland, it wasn't quite as much as I'd hoped for, but it was there. Snow; on the weekend - the perfect storm.

Last year we bought some sledges long after the snow had gone (as they were all sold out when there was a hint of snow). And finally we got to use them on the local school sports grounds where there is this great hill. This is the top.

I haven't managed to capture it below, but at the bottom is a bit pile of slushy mud-snow. After being deposited in it, my daughter went home for an early bath leaving me and the boy to enjoy the more gradual hills without a slushy mess to land in.

We spent a lovely and exhausting hour trudging up and sliding back down (him) running down (me) the snowy slopes.

Back home, I think I may have finally found the perfect backdrop to photograph the dog, she camouflages into the background in all my other photos.

I love the way her ears fly out at the sides when she runs. Like a jet, or something equally fast, I bet it happens to cheetahs too.

The second rule of snow club...

Day 2 of snow and I suspect the last day. This my second post in the informative series regarding snow (find part 1 here) with more insightful advice about how to survive it.

Faced with a long day stuck in the house with 2 delightful children, it's time to crack open the craft supplies.

I had hoped that making the felted Christmas baubles that I showed you before from Vicky's blog would be a wholesome craft project for me and the kids to enjoy. But really, it's a grown up one that I thoroughly recommend. The kids absolutely loved the wool tops, I think here they were mocking their dad who grew a moustache (not quite as magnificent as these) for Movember.

I do have quite a lot of these lovely wool tops leftover - any suggestions on what to do with them?

So, needing something a little more kid friendly, I recently stocked up at Wilkinsons who have a brilliant supply of branded and own brand cheapo crafting supplies.

This is the second rule of snow club.

2. Do not run out of craft supplies

Other things I try never to run out of in our house are (in no particular order);

1. Red wine
2. Biscuits
3. Earl Grey tea
4. Wi-Fi
5. Washing powder
6. Red pesto
7. *new entry!* craft supplies

I will come back to this list, it doesn't feel complete yet.

I can tell you now that the third rule of snow club is;

3. Snow club should last no longer than 2 days

The novelty will have run out by roughly 5pm day 2. I can see into the future.

Snowy days and days...

And still it snows in Brighton. On a trip to the supermarket earlier to get the essentials, bread, milk, courgette, etc my husband said it was like an apocalypse, panic buying, huge queues, I'm glad I wasn't there. Thankfully we have our supplies now, all except the courgette, which was no where to be found in a crisis. I read on another blog about 'french toast alerts' issued ahead of snow, as the shops run out of bread, eggs and milk. It's very Brighton to also run out of courgette.

Fear not though, the post office is still open and all M is for make orders are being sent off and winging their way to you as we speak.
